when time passes,

Here we are, always threading on a fine line-the world of practicalities where money buys, and the world of strong determined personal values where money is paper. On our way back, we played a Korean soundtrack in the car. There was this one song, one of those songs like Sukiyaki, painfully sad, and agonizing. When a person leaves, dies, departs, rests in peace, it is no matter what they call it, I don’t know what is left behind, clothes, objects of regret and memory, tears, remembering this way and that and every way but never being able to pinpoint exactly the warmth of the physical self.

and the great irony of it all, is that sometimes, in losing a person, be it in death or if the person leaves our lives because of broken social networks, broken romances... we start to fully appreciate the wholeness of that person's value in our lives. And yet, at times, we stop to wonder, if its really that person we miss, or perhaps a fiction of all that beauty that once seem so real, yet so fleeting and transient.

I love Sukiyaki. Somehow, i think romantics all have a thing for sad songs about lost. Lost always reminds us of a certain amount of nostalgic idealism. First kisses always seem better when second and third kisses have passed.

yeah, that's the inevitability of memory, isn't it? that it is difficult sometimes not to dramatise/romanticize. anyway, what a way to put it..."broken social networks". !!! joshua??!

i love sukiyaki too, it's one of those forgotten and underated songs but it should remain that way. and i was thinking about songs in general. do u think songs these days are a lot sadder than before? or rather, there are many more sad songs than before. i'm thinking of those loud, chessy (at times) oldies and chinese festive songs that sing of wealth and gambling and all things happy. haha.

I cant help it, the socie student in me is hegemonic :)

Yeah. being sad and emo is the new pink, which is kinda insulting to pink cause i think pink is a nice color.

You know whats my ultimate happy song? Its "who let the dogs out" by baha men. Stupid , irritating, and cheesy, but hey, its still funny.

Oh btw, i still have those old hokkien chinese new year songs. My dad found a box of CDs the other day with all those in them.

did u watch 881? there's a hokkien song which goes something like each person one piece, relationship wont split. i love it! haha i walked into ntuc one night and they were playing it. so retro eh.

u have v bad taste?! who lets the dogs out. hahaha. it's a nice song when u feel retarded.

hegemonic masculinity! hmmph. i must defend my emphasized feminity which is still defined in relation to ur masculinity. sad.

anyway, on songs, you could even do a thesis on it man. compare xmas songs w chinese cny songs. they do reflect a lot of values... chinese songs always sing of wealth, gong xi gong xi, xmas songs are peaceful and oh joy to the world tralalala. ok, am tired. haha.

WEI! I have very good taste in music k! *Joshua is pouting (TRADEMARK)* Besides, u've got to admit, that song is so retarded, u just want to laugh at it. OH! u've got to watch the video of that. You know, talking about songs, i kinda like britney's new song.

AND HOR! don pretend to be an emphasized female!we all know that you are a hegemonic female! my masculinity is shaped by ur femininty. :( See how i have to trademark hugs and pouts? They are tools of subversion for the weaker sex (males) !!! (JOshua begins to write a thesis on the Matriarchial Bargain)

i havent watch 881 yet... its one of the tragedies in life that despite my love for movies, the 'death' of my last romance have left me movieless. oh well, DONT BE A TECHNO CAT!

and zq.. you are obsessed with writing theses... :) actually ME TOO! But most good ideas have been stolen by people alr and i am in an activist mood...

Feminism for men anyone?
